
The Blue Tide softball team on Thursday defeated the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers, 4-2.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings but in the top of the third, Kelby Manning nailed a two-run single bringing in Skylar Ogden and Kayla Mills. This put the Blue Tide up 2-0.
The Buccaneers soon came back to tie the score.
In the top of the seventh, with the game even, Mills hit a two-run homerun over the fence, sending Ogden home and giving Long County the lead, 4-2. which was the final score.
In the game Linda Stephens went 1 for 4 with a single, while Ogden was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, and Manning went 1 for 4 with 2 runs batted in.
The big bat in the game was Mills, who went 3 for 4 with 2 singles, the 2-run bomb, and 2 runs batted in. She also was the winning pitcher striking out 5 Buccaneers and only allowing 4 hits.
With the win the Blue Tide Ladies now have an overall record of 3-6 and a 2-AA Region record of 2-3. They played Brantley County (12-7-1 and 2-2 in the 2-AA Region) last night (Tuesday 9/16) but results from that game were not available in time for this story.
The Blue and White Girls take on St. Vincent's Academy tomorrow (Thursday 9/18), and will try to keep up their winning ways.
The Saint Ladies have yet to win a game this year, and the last time the two teams played was in 2006, when the Blue Tide won that game 9 to 3.
The game is in Ludowici and the first pitch will be at 5:00 PM.
