The Long County High School softball team picked up their first region win last Thursday.
Playing in front of the home fans, the Blue Tide ladies beat the Charlton County Lady Indians, 4-1. The win was the first for the Tide in their region and brought them up to the .500 mark in the tough 2-AA bracket.
The ladies travel to Hazlehurst tomorrow to take on the tough Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets.
The Jackets, who sit at 1-0 in the 2-AA region and have a 5-1 overall mark, are coming off a tough 3-1 loss to the Lee County Trojans.
The Yellow Jackets won
both of their games against the Blue Tide last year, by 2-1
and 13-1, and currently have the most potent offense in their region, averaging six runs a game. They also have the stingiest defense in the region with teams averaging only one run against them in each of their games.
The local ladies are averaging four runs a game on the offense while the defense is allowing an average of six in each contest.
The standings in the 2-AA region are Pierce County (3-2) and Appling County (6-4) on top with 2-0 marks, with Jeff Davis County (5-1) in third, with a 1-0 record, while Long County (2-4) and Charlton County (1-7) round out the top five teams.
The Jeff Davis game starts at 5:55 p.m.
