For six innings the Blue Tide softball team looked like they were going to notch their first 2-AA Region win of the season against Appling County. But a late rally by the Lady Pirates dashed that hope, and the Blue Tide fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the region.
The game started well for the Blue Ladies as Kayla Mills belted a single in the first.
The Lady Pirates then made a bad throw, and Mills advanced to second base.
Afterwards Kelsey Taylor smacked a single, and sent Mills in for the score.
In the second inning neither team could do much, but in the bottom of the third, Mills once again nailed a single, and managed to get on second after a walk, but the team could not bring the run in.
The Lady Tide held the 1-0 lead until the top of the seventh, but the Lady Pirates put up a three runs in the inning and the final score ended up at 3-1, in favor of the visitors.
Assistant coach Julie Daffron said, “We have been stressing to the team that they have got to come together, as a team if they want to win some games.”
She added, "In this game, they did some of that, and it was obvious in their defensive play."
According to the coach, the team has been showing a good effort, but has not been able to get the hits, to produce wins.
"One of the keys we have to work on, is to put runners on base, by getting more base hits", said Daffron.
The Lady Tide played Charlton County last night, Thursday August 28th, but results from that game were not available in time for this story.
The Lady Blue Tide will travel to Hazlehurst Thursday (Sept. 4) to take on the Lady Yellow Jackets. The Jackets are 3-0 and 1-0 in the 2-AA Region, so this should be a tough game for the Ludowici team. Game time is 6 p.m.
