The Long County High School softball team lost to Appling County 5-0 Tuesday.
The Lady Pirates came into the game at the top of 2-AA and the Ludowici girls just couldn’t get it going against the Baxley team.
"We were down the whole game. The girls weren’t stepping into the box ready to hit and our intensity level was low. We have a lot of work to do," Tide coach Jennifer Alfirov said.
The Tide was held to one hit, which was by Shelby Mock.
On Thursday, the girls played the Pierce County Lady Bears in Blackshear and the results were much better for the Blue and White. They won the 2-AA contest 11-9.
With that win, Long County improved their overall record to 4-5 and their region mark to 1-2.
The standings in the region currently have Appling on top with a 4-0 record, followed by Jeff Davis, 3-0, Vidalia, 2-0, Brantley County and Tattnall County, both at 2-1, Long County, 1-2, and Pierce, McIntosh, Toombs and St. Vincent’s, all winless in the tough 2-AA.
This Thursday, the Lady Tide will be trying to make up ground in the region, as they face the Lady Warriors from Tattnall County. The Blue and White will need to shut down the offense of the visiting team, which is scoring nearly six runs a game.
The game in Ludowici starts at 5 p.m.
