Last Thursday, the Lady Tide softball team traveled to Nahunta and took on the Herons for their first Region 2-AA game of the year. The trip didn’t go well.

"The only positive in the game versus Brantley is that we lost as a team. In this loss, we all hung our heads together as a team," Long County High School head coach Jennifer Alfirov said. "Brantley is a good, but I feel like we are a good team, too. We just looked a mess in the game."

The loss dropped the Tide’s regular season record to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in 2-AA. Long County also has played several tournament games and, including all the games, they are 3-5. Alfirov said her team has come close is several matches.

"Since starting in August, we are 3-5. We have played some great games, with three of our losses being a one-run difference in games that could have gone either way," she said. "Unfortunately, we were on the losing side of the one-run games, with two of the losses being to great programs, Savannah Christian and Pierce County."

Yesterday, the Lady Tide hosted Appling County for another region game. The Lady Pirates brought an impressive 8-4 overall mark and a 2-0 Region 2-AA record. Before the match, Appling was averaging 7 runs a game and allowing 2. The Lady Tide were putting up 2 and allowing 4.

"In preparing for Appling, we will practice hard and I will try to do a better job of mentally preparing my team for the tough competition…," Alfirov said ahead of the game. "We have ability on our team to play with them. We just have to show up mentally and physically."
