LUDOWICI — In a game that pitted neighboring counties against each other, the Long County ladies softball team beat the Bradwell Tiger ladies Tuesday.
With the Hinesville girls having to travel here, the Blue Tide got the lead in the second inning and never looked back.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first, but that didn’t last long, as Long County’s Kelly Long managed to make it to second base on a hit and an error in the outfield by the Tigers in the bottom of the second.
After this, a sacrifice by a Tide batter advanced Long to third, and then Brittany Lee nailed a triple sending the runner in for the score, and to tie the game.
Senior Brittany Mills then got to the plate and smacked a double, bringing Lee in for the score.
From here on out, the Tide was in control of the game, and went on to take the contest 12-4.
The win put Long County’s overall record at 4-7, while Bradwell Institute fell to 0-10. The Tide’s 2-AA Region mark is now 2-4, while the Tiger’s are 0-4 in the 3-AAAAA Region.
According to GaSports, the top four teams in the 3-AAAAA Region are Camden County (6-4) with a 5-0 mark, Jenkins High (9-3) in second with a 6-1 record, followed by Groves High (4-5) and Johnson High School (1-6) with a 1-2 and a 1-3 record.
In the 2-AA, the teams ahead of the Long Ladies are Pierce County (16-7) at 7-1, Jeff Davis County (20-5) at 5-1, Brantley County (18-7-1) at 6-2, Appling County (13-14) at 5-2, and McIntosh County (9-11) at 3-4.
On Thursday, Long County took on the Tattnall County Ladies, while the lady Tigers hosted Groves, but results for those games were not available.
